White Taron Johnson Jerseys , Foster came back and showed real upside thanks to his deep-threat ability" OpinionBuffalo Bills Salary CapBuffalo Bills’ best contract values of 2018: Robert FosterNew,49commentsAn undrafted free agent who was cut in the middle of the season, Foster came back and showed real upside thanks to his deep-threat abilityEDTAs an undrafted free agent out of Alabama, Robert Foster was thought to be just a camp body because of his connection to Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. Foster was overlooked and overshadowed by the plethora of talented receivers who play for the Crimson Tide and his production as a four-year player wasn't remarkable. The Bills appear to have found a steal in Foster. But it didn’t appear that way in the beginning—with the wide receiver tallying only two catches for 30 yards (all in one game) over the first half of the season. Buffalo waived Foster and then brought him back to the practice squad in Week 7. Finally a part of the active roster again the following week, Foster quickly created a connection with Josh Allen—in fact, over 75% of his production came in the last six games of the season. As noted in a piece about Robert Forster by the Bills’ official website: “Foster led the NFL in yards per catch with an average of 20.0 (minimum 25 receptions). The next four receivers on that list were DeSean Jackson, Josh Gordon, Mike Evans and Dante Pettis. He was the only NFL rookie with three 100-yard receiving games in 2018, putting him in a group with JuJu Smith-Schuster (3 in 2017), Michael Thomas (3 in 2016) and Amari Cooper (5 in 2015) as the only NFL players since 2015 to record three 100-yard games in their rookie season.”For the entire season, Foster had 27 catches for 541 yards and six touchdowns. Foster was the team’s second-leading receiver next to Zay Jones. In terms of production per snap, Foster was the number-one target. Foster only played 450 (42.5%) snaps to Jones’s 941 (88.9%) according to Pro Football Reference. Foster’s cap hit in 2018 was a whopping $225,880. For an undrafted receiver who was highly productive with a limited amount of snaps Taron Johnson Jerseys 2019 , Foster’s elite level of play over the final seven games of last season and his low cap number makes him the second-best salary-cap value on the Bills’ roster for the 2018 season. The definition of a roster lock is a bit nebulous, and on the Buffalo Bills under Brandon Beane, the concept may have been blown out of the water following the trades of Marcell Dareus and Sammy Watkins.Keep those two players in mind as we roll through the different types of players who are roster locks. It’s not a list of “I’d be surprised if these players were cut.” These are the guys that can’t play themselves off the roster. It’s a list of guys who won’t be released—point blank, period. The Draft Pick LocksTre’Davious White (2017 first round)Matt Milano (2017 fifth round)Josh Allen (2018 first round)Tremaine Edmunds (2018 first round)Harrison Phillips (2018 third round)Ed Oliver (2019 first round)Cody Ford (2019 first round)Devin Singletary (2019 third round)Dawson Knox (2019 third round)These players were all selected in the first three rounds by general manager Brandon Beane except White and Milano, who were picked by Sean McDermott while Doug Whaley was still the nominal GM. The list notably doesn’t include Taron Johnson (2018 4th rounder) nor the pair of 2017 2nd rounders, Dion Dawkins and Zay Jones. Johnson dealt with injuries in an otherwise very good rookie season. Jones and Dawkins have had long stretches of struggle in careers with glimpses of very good play. Jones is the closest to a roster lock of this group of three, and it would be surprising for any of these three players to be released.McDermott/Beane picks that aren’t locks: Zay Jones White Tre’Davious White Jersey , Dion Dawkins, Taron Johnson, Siran Neal, Wyatt Teller, Ray-Ray McCloud III, Vosean Joseph, Jaquan Johnson, Darryl Johnson, Tommy Sweeney, and let’s add undrafted free-agent signings Robert Foster and Levi WallaceThe Contract LocksJerry Hughes ($23.6 million dead cap, $7.7 million signing)Star Lotulelei ($18.55 million dead cap, $10.4 million signing)Mitch Morse ($20.4 million dead cap, $11 million signing)John Brown ($10.1 million dead cap Tre’Davious White Jersey 2019 , $4.8 million signing)Cole Beasley ($10.7 million dead cap, $6 million signing)Tyler Kroft ($4.6 million dead cap, $4.6 million already paid)Ty Nsekhe ($6.2 million dead cap, $3 million bonus)This is a list of players whose contracts prohibit the Bills from releasing them with large accelerated cap hits or fully guaranteed 2019 salaries. Remember that Buffalo traded Marcell Dareus with $24.8 million in dead cap money, which is more than anyone on our list right now, but the players on the list were brought in by Beane, so the cap hits would hit much closer to home. If it’s the salary that’s guaranteed (as opposed to remaining pro-rated signing bonus money), that would be offset by a new team if the player were signed by another squad or traded.Lee Smith ($4.4 million dead cap), Jon Feliciano ($3.9 million dead cap), Shaq Lawson ($3.2 million dead cap), and Andre Roberts ($3 million dead cap) are probably roster locks, but not nearly enough for me to place on the list. Lawson, in particular White Zay Jones Jerseys , wasn’t signed by the current administration and they just passed on giving him a guaranteed one-year contract extension by declining the fifth-year option on his rookie contract. Smith was on and off my list a couple times; he has $1 million guaranteed in 2020 (but that would be offset if someone else signed him, just like his guaranteed $1.9 million 2019 salary). They’ll only have paid him $1.6 million if he is cut before the season plus whatever isn’t offset.Similarly to Smith, Roberts was paid $1 million in signing bonus, and while his $2 million salary was guaranteed, if he’s signed elsewhere, Buffalo won’t be on the hook for the salary in his new contract, so they’ll be responsible for less than $2 million. High dead-cap hits but not a roster lock: Lee Smith, Jon Feliciano, Shaq Lawson, Andre Roberts, Trent MurphyThe Play LocksLorenzo AlexanderMicah HydeJordan PoyerThese are the guys who have earned the benefit of the doubt by their extraordinary play. No matter how poorly they play in training camp and the preseason, they are still on the team in September. All three played at Pro Bowl levels over the last two years.<hr class="p-entry-hr" id="ZCuQE2">That’s 19 players of the 53-man final roster and current 91-man offseason roster who are locks at this point in the offseason:Lorenzo AlexanderJosh Allen Cole BeasleyJohn BrownTremaine EdmundsCody FordJerry HughesMicah HydeDawson KnoxTyler KroftStar LotuleleiMatt Milano Mitch MorseTy NsekheEd OliverHarrison PhillipsJordan PoyerDevin SingletaryTre’Davious White
